In PCI for STEMI VT/VF Increases Mortality Risk at 90 Days

Incidence of and Outcomes Associated With Ventricular Tachycardia or Fibrillation in Patients Undergoing Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention

VT/VF in the first 48 hours of STEMI previously was thought to not have long-term prognostic implications. The results of this study and others indicate that VT/VF is a strong independent predictor of death at 90 days. Whether early treatment with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator improves outcomes in these patients is unclear and requires further study.
