Knowing the Signs
In the interview, Ms. Benton listed several characteristics that can help people recognize themselves as high-functioning alcoholics:
¶They have trouble controlling their intake even after deciding that they will drink no more alcohol than a given amount.
¶They find themselves thinking obsessively about drinking — when and where and with whom they will drink next.
¶When they drink, they behave in ways that are uncharacteristic of their sober self.
¶They experience blackouts, unable to remember what took place during a drinking bout.

In this cohort of women, depressive symptoms were associated with fatal CHD.

We know that any diminution in ABI below normal suggests significant systemic atherosclerosis.

VT/VF in the first 48 hours of STEMI previously was thought to not have long-term prognostic implications. As you probably already know, the “official” death toll from H1N1 in Mexico is considerably lower than the original counts. Non-mainstream media outlets are reporting much higher numbers of fatalities than the “official” number from the WHO. The question now is troubling – if H1N1 was not the cause, what did all of these people die from?
