Controlling sleep apnea may lessen the risk of recurrent atrial fibrillation episodes.
The review, published in JACC Clinical Electrophysiology, analyzed seven studies that followed more than 1,000 patients with both sleep apnea and recurrent AF. Overall, CPAP reduced AF episodes by 42 percent. And it benefited patients regardless of whether their AF was managed with medication or a catheter ablation procedure.
The downside is that none of the studies was a controlled clinical trial, which offers the best proof of a treatment’s benefits.

Just when you start to think you’ve heard it all you stumble upon this article. I’ve never thought about taking mass quantities of anti-diarrheal medication for the purpose of getting high.
A little-known manifestation of loperamide toxicity is cardiac dysrhythmias. This case report describes a 48-year-old woman who had ingested up to 40 tablets 2-mg loperamide daily for several weeks to “get a high.”
After adjustments for variables that included sex, educational status, and year of birth, alcohol use disorder was associated with a mortality hazard ratio of 5.83 (95% confidence interval, 5.76 – 5.90). However, the hazard ratio showed an inverted U-shaped curve in accordance with age.
