Behind Aspen’s international skiing luster lies a deep, competitive hockey culture that makes for a tough beer league. Over the years when I invited friends over for dinner they got pretty excited. One day I asked a guest what’s with all the excitement? Chinese food! Earthquake?
Yes as in a 4.5 earthquake.
Wow! Damage?
I felt a small rumble roll through the house while hearing reports of different locations having whole house shaking events. It depends on which fault line your house is near. We likely have zero damage but others may fare worse. We had earthquake coverage until a few years ago when the insurance company cancelled our earthquake rider. It will take a day or two for damage reports to make the news.
I saw an interesting Ask This Old House episode on PBS on how to harden your house against earthquakes. It was extremely interesting. It wasn’t all that expensive and it made a huge difference in the amount of damage. I remember they added various types of bracing to the foundation, bracing to the gas lines, and they secured furniture like bookcases to the wall so they wouldn’t injure people if they fell.
I’ll search for the episode online and take a look. Thanks.
