Does it all depend on where you live? I know I have friends who live in San Francisco. And it is crazy expensive. But here in Pensacola one can easily live on $40,000 a year.
The short answer is yes. Where you live and the cost of living in that area is probably the biggest variable. Real estate wealth is nice but also comes with much higher expenses in terms of upkeep, maintenance, insurance, and taxes.
