Behind Aspen’s international skiing luster lies a deep, competitive hockey culture that makes for a tough beer league. A drive to win the bragging rights to the battered Pell Cup turns architects, bartenders, contractors, lawyers, teachers, ski bums, and friends into fierce, fist-throwing rivals…former pros, Division I college players, and old goats—or, more accurately, has-beens […]

Over the years when I invited friends over for dinner they got pretty excited. One day I asked a guest what’s with all the excitement? Chinese food! When I finished reading The Writing Life by Annie Dillard I realized my writing will never achieve the level of the great ones. But I am OK with this just as I was OK with deciding not to pursue writing for a living. Too hard, too demanding, too much time spent writing words into the […]

How do you manage portions?
A friend of mine who is visiting Spain now said when she went out to dinner last night and asked for a to go box, they were appalled. Apparently nobody in Madrid does that.
In no particular order, pauses. When dining, if I have an urge to eat more, I pause wait a few minutes to see if I’m really, truly hungry for more food. If eating in a restaurant, I try to eat half of the plate and “to go box” the rest for another meal. I’ll eyeball portion sizes, I’ve never used a scale. I tend to eat certain foods for which I have less willpower less often like pizza. If I’m at a sit-down burger joint, I don’t get fries. I’ll also choose a smaller burger or sandwich and resist getting the larger sizes. I buy and use smaller tortillas.
You need to include all of this in your upcoming the seller.
